What is worship?
In the words of Darlene Zschech, a renowned worship leader, she says:
“Worship (worth-ship) is all about giving due worth to our God…
It has always required truth and integrity…
If we don’t worship our Lord, we end up ultimately being involed in idolatry, which is simply placing our affections on anything else higher than our God.”
Worship opens the windows of Heaven.
Worship helps us to take your focus off of the problem and to fix our eyes on the Promiser.
When you are unable to pray, worship acts as a prayer.
Worship is formed of words from the Bible as lyrics accompanied by music to give reverance and honor and glory to the One who created us, God.
Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at ALL times.”
This is a command from God that no matter what is going on in life (good or bad), we have to make an intentional decision to lift up praises and worship to God. That is not discounting your feelings – your feelings are important to God, but they are not your god. This scripture, along with others is there to remind us that even when our situation is dire, our praise can shift the atmosphere.
Our praise & worship acts as a reminder to prompt us to magnify God rather than magnifying the situation that we are facing.
Our praise and worship prompts us to say to the situation – you are not impossible for my God to defeat, to restore, to rectify or to bring good out of.
Praise is thanking God for all He has done (Psalm 103), all He is doing and all He is yet to do in your life and those you love. Worship is declaring to God (and reminding yourself) of Who He is – Sovereign, King, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, Provider, Healer, Protector, Restorer, All Powerful, Mighty, Magnificent, Indescribable to name a few.
The beauty of worship is that there is no particular genre per se.
There is worship music for the rocker in you, the heart that loves soul / gospel, as well as the one who loves dance! This various selection of worship music – from rock to pop to reflective, is a means to allowing the Holy Spirit (our Helper sent by God) to speak to us, or uplift us or even encourage us to pray again.
